IntelCities - Here's a nice, new free Web space provider. IntelCities gives you three megs of space (and doesn't burden your site with annoying pop-up ads or banners). You also get such goodies as a virtual chatroom, virtual greeting cards (a good way to draw traffic), guestbooks, mail forms, graphical counters, and a home page builder to help you if you don't know HTML. Personal support is also available.

PeopleCity - A new free advertiser-supported Web provider that offers up to five megs of space. Features an easy-to-use "Web Shell" for creating and publishing your pages. To get an account here, you must have a MailCity free Web-based E-mail account. The first 200K of disk space in your account can be ad-free if you want. If you go over this limit, PeopleCity may place a banner or pop-up ad on your site. No porn, spamming or paid ads. Read their other rules here.

The Icestorm Network - This is a reasonably fast, new Web host service that, for "a limited time," is offering free space with the ability to run up to five CGI scripts (a feature that's rare with free space providers). What's more, there are no annoying pop-up ads here. You get two megs of space, online Web editing & uploading, E-mail forwarding and free tech support. However, you don't get FTP or Telnet access. No porn or spamming allowed.

Spree.com - A free Web space provider that offers "unlimited" space. Note: click on the "Your Free Website" link to get your free page. Spree offers other goodies, such as a guestbook, a counter and a directory manager. Currently, they're offering a sweepstakes, in which new members who sign up have a shot at winning a year of free Net access. Spree is also offering a popular partners program, in which you can earn commissions for sending traffic their way. Note: we've had complaints about the amount of time it can take to upload your pages here, apparently due to a sometimes-slow server.

Angelfire Communications - This is a competent free Web space provider that offers a five-megabyte limit on content. However, if you use graphics from their stock collection, they're not counted against your space limit. This service is paid for by sponsored (annoying) pop-up banner ads. You may advertise your business, but you may not have paid advertising banners on your page. Angelfire offers lots of helpful advice for getting you up and running with your own Web site, even if you're new to Web site authoring.

PART-1

Patricia Enterprises - This new service offers two megs of free Web space with instant activation. Features include free form processing, a free secure sever, free installation help and a free guestbook. They do not display annoying pop-up ads and they have no advertising restrictions (porn and hate group materials excepted). More features are promised soon: bulletin boards, chat and CGI script hosting.

The Globe - This major free Web space provider offers six megs of space, along with free E-mail and chat. You may create your Web pages here by writing the HTML coding yourself or you may use this service's "PageWizard" to write the coding for you. This service also offers fun, free multimedia Active X objects called "Things" that you can easily place on your page. "Things" come in several varieties, including games, Web site navigation and holiday themes. The only quibble we have with The Globe is that they place banners at the top of your pages.

CyNet City Virtual Community - This "interactive community" offers free personal Web page hosting and E-mail. You get four megs of space, but can get 10 megs if you "run for office" and become a "City Official" (which can be any one of a number of positions, such as City Attorney, Librarian or Museum Curator, that involve taking on some responsibilities, such as overseeing online forums).

Fortune City.com - Stake your claim at this cool service that uses a city theme. Some people will probably find this concept appealing; others are annoyed by it, judging from our feedback. Each member of the "community" gets a whopping 10 megs of space for a Web site. Better hurry, space here is being snapped up quickly. At one time, we were hearing complaints about the time it takes to gain access to update your page. But Fortune City.com has installed new server equipment and access woes no longer appear to be a problem. Note: like many services of this type, you must display their banner on your page. No commercial pages allowed.

FreeNation - This popular (200,000 members) Hong Kong-based service recently changed their URL and increased the amount of Web space they give you from five to a generous seven megs. You also get CGI services, SSI (server side includes), counters, guestbooks, IRC chat, random mime generators and many other features.

FreeTown - Free Web pages available ``for personal or commercial use, providing the content is legal and rated for general audiences.'' Has a Web page creator form that lets you build your page online.
